Confirmed: Philips Enters Touchscreen Phone Market with Xenium X800 |
|
We saw the Philips X800 last week, but it was little more than a rumor and a leak at that point. The existence of the Philips Xenium X800 touchscreen cell phone has now been confirmed, adding yet another handset to the growing collection of iPhone competitors. In some ways, you could say that the X800 is similar to the HTC Touch Diamond. In other ways, not so much.
The Philips X800 runs on Windows Mobile and features a 2.9-inch color display, tri-band GSM/GPRS, a 2-megapixel autofocus camera (where?), Bluetooth, microSD expansion, and up to 8 hours of talk time. There is no mention of a high-speed data option, so don't expect to enjoy any Wi-Fi or 3G web surfing. Pricing and availability are still up in the air.
For a higher end experience, there is also the Philips Xenium X-Connect. It takes on a similar form factor, but it's a little more square (like the iPhone). The upgrades include Windows Mobile 6, 3-inch display, UMTS/HSDPA, and GPS navigation.
